Doctors have just successfully prevented a newborn baby from inheriting a type of breast cancer that runs in her family. Using a technique called pre-implant diagnosis, they were able to identify and isolate the cancer gene, preventing the child from inheriting it. Many people are critical of the technique, saying that it could lead to people being given the option of “designer babies.”
